Briony Farr

Briony studied Fine Art Painting at Manchester Metropolitan University and is now based in Levens, Cumbria. Her work is deeply influenced by walks in the nearby Lake District and travels through Scotland and its islands. Often working in acrylic inks and mixed media, she explores colour, line, and contrast to create expressive pieces that capture the feeling of being outdoors—in the wind, sun, or rain. While her approach to paint is fluid and free, a strong foundation in drawing always shines through.
This recent series takes inspiration from the ever-changing weather. Rather than focusing on the precise shapes of the landscape, Briony reflects on how light and atmosphere transform in an instant—when the sun bursts through the clouds, the sky darkens, or a storm sweeps across the fells. For her, it is this fleeting drama of light and weather that makes the Lake District so compelling. In these works, layers of watery inks are built up over areas of dried masking fluid, creating effects that suggest rainfall, brooding skies, or shimmering heat haze.
Briony’s paintings are clean, vibrant, and contemporary, bringing a striking presence to any space. For her, the greatest reward comes when a viewer connects with what she has tried to capture—knowing that her work has found a home, bringing joy to someone for years to come
